Quick Start
Jobutsu Mesh Exporter exports a MetaHuman skeletal mesh as an OBJ for editing outside Unreal Engine.
Install the Plugin
Use the plugin package made for your exact Unreal Engine version: 5.6, 5.7, or 5.8.
- Install the plugin through Fab, or place the
JobutsuExporterfolder inside your project’sPluginsfolder. - Open the project.
- Go to Edit > Plugins and enable Jobutsu Mesh Exporter for Metahumans.
- Restart Unreal Editor if asked.
Export a Mesh
- In the Content Browser, find the MetaHuman skeletal mesh that you want to edit.
- Select one skeletal mesh.
- Right-click it and choose Jobutsu Exporter.
- Choose the DNA LOD and mesh regions, or the material slots shown in the export window.
- Enable the full-mesh option if you want one complete OBJ.
- Enable Bake materials and textures for Blender (1024 px) if you want the OBJ to arrive with visible materials.
- Select OK, then choose an output folder.
The exporter shows a summary when it has finished.
Material baking adds an .mtl file and a folder of PNG textures beside the OBJ. Keep them together when moving the export.
Which File Should I Use?
For most MetaHuman work, use the file ending in _Full_DNAQuad.obj. It contains the complete selected DNA LOD and keeps the DNA polygon layout, including quads.
Files named after individual DNA regions are useful when you only need one part of the character. A file ending in _Full.obj comes from the triangle/material-slot export path.
